Creative Arts

At our first Residential Intensive held at Ghost Ranch, we provided local clay for students to work with during some of the hours they were not in the classroom. Little did we know the impact this would have. Working with the clay proved to be a very positive experience after a day of profound personal inner work.

Hands were busy with the clay, while hearts were open and settling in with the new relationships forming. Students all sat and shared, laughed and played with clay as it took shape in beautiful and unexpected ways. Each student created something with his/her hands that spoke to and brought together the individual internal process experienced through the Intensive.

At the end of the Intensive, as they talked about what they had created, expressions of delight, puzzlement and questioning, as well as wonder, joy and awe emerged. The creative experience had deep meaning for them and they wanted more. Even those who would not usually engage in a creative project found great value for themselves.

Since that first Residential Intensive we have included such projects as mask making, pottery, stone-carving, collages, writing and traditional Navajo drum-making.
