TWO RIVERS

The Two Rivers Center area was populated in 1920 by the Hallock and Howard Lumber Company, which produced all the wood that helped rebuild Chicago after the Chicago fire. A small spur of the Rio Grande Narrow Gauge Railroad was created to transport the lumber to Santa Fe and onto Chicago. Prior to the arrival of the American people, the Spaniards had entered into the valleys in the area, but the area remained unoccupied until the Mexican government deeded the land to a gentleman by the name of Diego Antonio Ortego and his wife Josepa.

The Tewa people who lived five miles south at Posi, Hun Povi, and Hun Wiri also had summer planting home in the valley and for these people this area is the gateway to the North, where they host the shrine TAMAY. South of the village there is a cave that is believed to be the emergence cave for the Keresan-speaking peoples of the middle Rio Grande valley. This place is called Sipapu.

Two Rivers Center is located in a Northern New Mexico village that is completely surrounded by the Carson National Forest, with it’s many hiking and biking trails and beautiful protected land, the area is rich in countless outdoor activities.

SANTA FE

Our late fall and winter Intensives will be held in Santa Fe until our new facilities at Two Rivers Center are built.  Santa Fe is a beautiful, charming and lively town.  In the fall, the cottonwood trees turn an amazing yellow-gold and in the winter, the sun shines nearly every day.  The location of our classes is in downtown Santa Fe, steps from the Plaza.  Our Intensives will be held in the Santa Clara room of Hotel Plaza Real. Special rates are available to our students for housing during the Intensive.  There is a link on our Calendar page that will  show you Santa Fe activities, weather, directions and much more.  www.visitsantafe.com
